Calvin Fitch draws artistic inspiration from both nature and the urban San Francisco landscape. He spends much of his week visiting community gardens and volunteering at Matter of Trust Eco-Center and Friends of the Urban Forest. His experiences are interpreted in large scale works featuring flowers, birds, buildings and people he’s familiar with. His palette is filled with bold, vivid tones alongside earthy browns and greens, and luxurious metallics. Each of Calvin’s pieces are worked and reworked; as he layers oil pastels over acrylic paint, then some tempera and perhaps oil pastel again. The results are cheerful, compelling and full
of character. Calvin says, “I want people to feel happy when they look at my paintings.”
