Fitu Petaia was born in Redwood City, and has lived in the Bay his entire life. He was exposed to art through his father, who created work based on their homeland of Samoa. Fitu excels at portraiture, commonly depicting celebrities, friends and family members. 
His illustrative style employs the use of bold color and rhythmic marking, inviting the viewer to follow the artists eye around the page. The careful study of his subjects' features expresses character rather than an exact likeness, as unique and charming as the artist himself. Fitu is also a prolific poet and talented musician. He also draws artistic influence from his family and people within his community. Fitu has exhibited
